Back to Election Countdown

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Election Countdown counts down to U.S. elections and lets visitors share how they plan to vote. Political preference is sensitive information: share only what you are comfortable with, and every demographic field is optional.

Information We Collect

How We Use Information

To run the countdown and your profile, record vote plans, show aggregate results, measure how the site is used, prevent abuse (rate limits apply to sign-up, sign-in, voting and analytics), and produce internal analytics and exports for the site operator.

Public Results

Only combined totals are ever shown publicly. The red/blue breakdown stays hidden until 50,000 plans exist for an election, and state and age breakdowns stay hidden until each group has at least 50 records. Plans without an account are reported separately and never mixed into the verified totals.

Cookies and Browser Storage

An HttpOnly session cookie keeps you signed in, and a short-lived cookie protects the Google/GitHub sign-in step. Your browser stores a random visitor id and your “already registered” choice, nothing else that identifies you.

Storage, Exports and Sharing

Data is stored with Cloudflare (D1 database and R2 storage). A nightly job writes daily summaries and a copy of that day’s events and vote plans to private storage; these copies never include email addresses. The operator can export data for analysis; vote-plan exports include email addresses and are handled as confidential. We do not sell personal data.

Your Choices and Deletion

Security

Passwords are stored only as salted PBKDF2 hashes; sessions are HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite cookies stored hashed on the server; all traffic is HTTPS; the site runs under a strict Content Security Policy; and abuse limits protect sign-up, sign-in, voting and analytics. No system is perfect.
